Nutrition & Food Testing – Brighton, Sussex
Poor nutrition is a major factor of many health problems. Your body needs a good supply of a range of nutrients such as proteins, certain types of fats (essential fatty acids), vitamins and minerals. Because of today’s unnatural farming methods and many people’s tendency to eat processed and microwaved foods, most people in the UK are deficient in certain nutrients, sometimes quite severely.
Food Testing
Everybody is different and foods that are beneficial for one person will not necessarily work well for someone else and could even be harmful for them. So how can you find out which foods are best for you personally? Kinesiology is an effective and accurate method of testing a selection of foods, allowing your body to tell you what it does and doesn’t like at a deep level.
Food sensitivities (intolerances) and food allergies
Both of the above occur as a result of an immune response by the body but they are different. A food allergy will usually produce a reaction within a few seconds or minutes of eating a food that a person is allergic to. Symptoms can range from a skin rash, itching, vomiting or swelling of parts of the body, often around the mouth and throat area. This is known as anaphylactic shock and it can be fatal if the throat or tongue swell enough to block the airways. Thankfully severe food allergies are relatively rare. If you are allergic to anything, Kinesiology and EFT can be helpful at reducing the severity of a reaction should you accidentally come into contact with a trigger food but you should most definitely continue to avoid any foods that you are allergic to (and carry your emergency autoinjector if you are given one).
Food sensitivities (also known as food intolerances) do not usually produce symptoms until a little while after eating the food, when it has passed through the small intestine into the bloodstream. Common symptoms of food sensitivities are
- Bloating
- Weight gain
- Nausea
- Digestive problems
- Headaches and migraines
- Aching joints / muscles
- Feeling tired and lethargic
- Fuzzy head
- Poor concentration
- Skin problems
- Sinus problems
Because of the delay of symptoms with food sensitivities, it can be very difficult to work out for yourself which foods are causing you problems. Kinesiology can help to detect which foods you are sensitive to and can also help enable your body to heal and strengthen so that you can comfortably tolerate more foods.
Some food sensitivities are constitutional and your body will never like that food or tolerate it very well. Some occur as a result of a weakened gut or because someone has eaten too much of a certain food over a period of time – in these cases, once the food has been avoided for a while (usually at least 3 months, often much longer) and the gut has had a chance to heal properly, your body may begin to tolerate certain foods again. Regular Kinesiology and food testing is a great way of monitoring this.
